Thinking about the future can often cause headaches, confusion, and for college students like me… Trauma. Who wants to think about next week’s Spanish exam, or the fact that applying for jobs is no longer an option, but a necessity? Looking ahead can surely be stressful, but with some great movies coming out this year, we can all have a little something to look forward to in our down time. I narrowed the list of great, upcoming movies down to three that I think will be very interesting this year. Here are my picks for box office gold in 2013:
The first ‘without-a-doubt’ hit expected to be released in May of this year is The Fast and The Furious: 6. Dominic Toretto and his crew of grand-theft experts will once again be taking on the big screen. If Dom, played by Vin Diesel, can’t provide enough testosterone for a cinema full of viewers, then Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson surely will. The Rock plays Luke Hobbs a detective who is pursuing a team of bandits similar to Toretto’s crew that have terrorized 12 different countries. Hobbs promises Dom that if he helps him find the notorious gang led by Owen Shawn (Luke Evans), he’ll let Dom go back to his family without charging him for his past convictions. With appearances from Ludacris, Tyrese Gibson and pretty-boy Paul Walker (who has starred in the previous five F&F films), this movie is certain to blow away all of its movie-goers.
2013 isn’t going to be just about testosterone filled actors and souped up engines. There will also be a little literary background when The Great Gatsby premieres also in May of this year. You may be thinking that after reading F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel in American Lit class, it’s bound to be a bore. But don’t fret because Leonardo Dicaprio will star as Jay Gatsby: a million-dollar man with mysterious tendencies. Hopefully Leo will come fired-up off of his latest blockbuster hit D’Jango: Unchained, wowing the audience with Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher and Tobey Maguire. So, get your flappers and other roarin’ 20’s garb ready for this gem, which is expected to be an award winner.
Last, but certainly not least, is a movie that touches close to home for college students such as myself. 21 & Over, directed by the creators of The Hangover, will look to make Project X a laughing matter. When it hits theaters in next month, you’ll find yourself amidst yet another rage of epic proportions. An eager medical student parties hard the night before his med school exam with two of his best friends. While it seems like a great idea to me and I’m sure to many others (sorry mom and dad), we’ll have to wait to see what will become of this epic night.
