Beauty that Gives Back

You know that feeling when you walk out of a store and your bags feel heavy…but your wallet feels light?  That awful feeling of buyer’s regret.  However, not all shopping has to be a bad thing.  Depending on what you buy, you can make a difference in the lives of others.  The Body Shop is a global company that is giving back to charities around the world through their Body Shop Foundation.

One of the most noteworthy things about The Body Shop is that they’re a fair trade company.  This means that they employ workers all over the world to make their products, and therefore provide them with a stable job and a viable source of income.

What’s even cooler is that starting soon (in their newest stores), The Body Shop will feature exactly how your purchase is making a difference.

For example, if you buy a container of their Shea Butter, next to the container there will be a breakdown of exactly how the money benefits the community that made it.  In the case of their Shea Butter (from Ghana), proceeds benefit 10 schools and three medical centers which The Body Shop has helped fund.

Starting today, when you purchase The Body Shop’s DragonFruit Lip Butter for $6, 100% of the proceeds will go to charity.  After their purchase, customers will have the chance to pick one of the three charities featured in store, and decide exactly where their dollars are going.

So while you might still be leaving the store with a lighter wallet and heavier shopping bag…now you’re leaving with so much more: the knowledge that you’re making a difference (even if it is a small one) and hopefully the motivation to continue doing good for the world.

Happy shopping and don’t ever stop making a difference in the world.  Remember, even if the difference you’re making is small, you’re still making a difference.
