La Vie Boheme

What’s not to love about the beach?!  The waves, the sand, the sun, friends, gossip magazines, ice cold drinks.  Sounds like the perfect day to me.  It’s not hard to decide what to wear, you don’t have to spend time on your make-up (who wants to be sweating off layers of foundation and bronzer) and after adding a few touches to your hair (or just throwing it into a messy bun) and you’re good to go.  Personally, I never know what to do with my hair.  It’s not easy achieving the messy-but-chic look.  However, it’ll be much easier now that I’m introducing you to this cheap, low-maintenance accessory.

Yesterday on Live! With Kelly, Kelly had on a red, white and blue bandana.  While I wasn’t a huge fan of wearing a bandana on daytime TV, I think it’s a cute accessory to rock at other low-key events–such as a trip to the beach, cook-outs, outdoor festivals, and concerts.

Chances are you already have a lightweight scarf (or two) in your closet that will be perfect for this look.

Hint: It’s best to use a square scarf (as opposed to the more popular rectangle ones) because they’re easiest to tie.

I’m not really a fan of making your scarf into a hat–I’m talking to you Ashley Olsen–and prefer the simpler “Gypsy” style shown below.

For those of you with short hair, making your scarf into a headband-style bandana is sure to look fabulous.

Looking for a more retro-vibe?  JLo’s 70’s Style scarf kept the hair out of her face and in place at an event in Germany last year.

If you’re like me and hats aren’t really your thing a headscarf is a fashionable alternative.  You can find dozens of scarves fairly cheap so it’s great if you want to experiment with different lengths, prints and colors.  So go experiment and see which style fits your personality best!  There are lots of tutorials on-line that can help you achieve the perfect boho-chic look.

Bonus Points: Go bold with a turban! Take notes from SJP in the first Sex and the City movie.
