A Little Sip of Italy

Before spending the entire summer at the beach (and for the record, there’s absolutely NOTHING wrong with that), you may want to sneak in some different adventures on the weekends before it’s way too hot to do anything but drink margaritas and soak up the sun.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to Newport Vineyards for a vineyard tour and wine tasting. Beyond the cultural experience, it was also a fun, cheap way to get a sophisticated buzz. At this particular winery, tours are given at 1 and 3 p.m. everyday. If you’re a New Englander, I’ll tell you that this hidden gem is somewhere that I had never even considered visiting before. But thanks to my Italian BF, I spent an afternoon at a place that felt like I was a lifetime away from the beaches in Narragansett. I loved learning the local culture, the beauty and secrets behind the oak barrels, and of course, the 5+ free samples that went along with the tour. The staff were friendly, the tourists asked all of the questions for us, and it was a great way to spend a rather drab afternoon.

The best part? There’s something to see in every season. Like I said, I was there in May. While the vines were just beginning to bud, a vineyard tour now would be much more colorful. So… what are you waiting for? Embrace an afternoon of wine tasting and enjoy the local flavor. Because as twenty-somethings, you can!
