TwentyTweets Beauty Product Guide: Face

If you’re anything like us, you’ve found yourself wandering the aisles of CVS or searching through Sephora, looking for great beauty products.  And we know this has happened more than once.  After searching aimlessly for far too long, you usually settle for a product based on its packaging (or maybe even just the price).

Lucky for you, the TwentyTweets contributors have decided to start a weekly beauty series that will help answer your ‘What (insert name of beauty product) should I buy?’  Every Saturday, we’ll help you get ready for the weekend with a list of our favorite products and why we love them.

This week:  We’re starting with our favorite products for your face!

———————————————————————————————————-

Best Moisturizer

Clean and Clear Duel Action Moisturizer $6.50 for 4 oz.

Taylor: “It helps with dry skin, and also helps to fight breakouts. It’s a great product for the winter when my skin is dried out.”

Jergens Natural Glow (Face)  $8.50 for 2 oz.

Brittni: “I love this product because, as you probably already know, I am a guidette at heart (minus the one night stands, poofs, and unecessary attitude). In other words…I love being tan. I am currently trying to deal with my terrible addiction of tanning and luckily this product allows me to reach a glow without going as frequently. The best part of this moisturizer is that it works gradually. This product goes on as a white lotion, but gradually leaves a nice glow to my skin. It also gets the “moisture job” done…which is the main point of it, right?”

Aveeno Positively Radiant Moisturizer $16.99 for 2.5 oz.

Erika: “Because I spend a lot of money on other skincare products, I’ve found that this moisturizer works just as well (and is a lot cheaper than) what I can buy at my dermatologist’s office. I have sensitive skin, so the natural ingredients are perfect for locking in moisture over night.”

Kate: “I’ve tried so many others, but Aveeno has always been my favorite. It moisturizes without leaving the skin greasy and it’s tough enough to cure any flaky skin you might come across during the winter.”

OLAY Total Effects 7-in-1 Anti-Aging Daily Moisturizer with a Touch of Sun $19 for 1.7 oz

Jenna: “I am absolutely obsessed with this product.  It adds a bit of color while leaving your skin smooth and hydrated.  And yes, you saw that right, anti-aging.  Call me crazy, but there’s no such thing as ‘too soon’ when it comes to fighting wrinkles and age spots.”

*BONUS: Brittni has a “dream product” when it comes to moisturizer.  At $35 for a 1.7 oz bottle–it’s not cheap!  Origin’s VitaZing is a moisturizer that is “not only amazing but it also leaves your skin with a natural glow. What makes it unique is that it “color matches” your skin tone magically (or at least I see it as magical), so no need to worry about getting the right shade. It is like a tinted moisturizer, but without the hassle of looking either too light or too dark for you…because it matches the unique color of your skin perfectly.”

Best Primer

Jenna and Brittni both love Victoria’s Secret Pro, Oil-Free Airbrush FX Face Primer $18 for .75 oz.

Brittni calls the primer a “live saver.”: “I love this product because it goes on smooth, doesn’t leave me feeling too greasy or like I have too much product on.”

Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in Green $32 for 1.01 oz.

Erika: “If you’re interested in color correcting any redness on your face, then you should be using a green primer. This one blends in well, and I can even put a little more on darker spots or dry skin without making me look green. It creates that protective layer like all primers do and my makeup has definitely been lasting longer since I started using this product.”

Best Foundation

It’s nearly a unanimous choice.  Erika, Brittni, Kate and Jenna all love Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Matte Foundation.  This award-winning product is seriously amazing.  This foundation provides flawless coverage and is light-weight and all-natural–making it perfect for all skin-types (even for people like Erika, who has sensitive skin).

Erika: “The soft texture of this lose mineral powder “buffs” on perfectly, covering as well as or even better than any liquid foundation that I have ever used.”  She adds, “ The right brushes are key to “buffing” this makeup on for flawless coverage, and no matter how much I use, it never looks clumped or cake-y.”

Brittni: “I’ve been a BE groupie for almost two years now and I literally cannot live without it! I swear by this stuff. I’ve tried out several other liquid and powder make up products during my time in the cosmetics word…even some far more expensive…and this product STILL takes the cake! I won’t speak for everyone that I work with, but the LARGE majority of them (and yes, that’s including women not employed at the BE counter, pushing other make up lines) wear not only BE foundation, but other make up products as well.”

Kate: “I’ve been using it for years. It never feels or looks heavy and cake-y. It spreads evenly and has SPF 15 which is great!”

Cover Girl Fresh Complexion Pocket Powder $8 for .37 oz.

Taylor: “I’m not big into foundation but I like a powder better than liquid, also this is great to throw in a purse and gives a very natural look.”

Best Cover-Up

Again, everyone is a fan of bareMinerals!

Erika: “I actually use the small, bareMinerals concealer brush with my Matte Foundation to pinpoint coverage over blemishes or pimples. It blends nicely and works perfectly.”

Brittni: “I use a lighter shade of BE foundation to touch up or use as a base for the foundation I use that is closer to my skin tone. Using the lighter color, I find that it covers more naturally and really hides whatever blemish or spot that I’m trying to conceal once I add my foundation.”

Kate: “Like Erika, I use the concealer brush to put a little extra foundation on blemishes– it’s the same color as my foundation (duh! it’s the same thing) so problem areas never stands out because your foundation and concealer are two different colors.”

Best Bronzer

Warmth All-Over Face Color by bareMinerals  $19

Erika: “This warmth product comes with your first bareMinerals start up kit, and it’s the best bronzer that I’ve ever used. You can apply it lightly all over, and then use a bit more to highlight your cheekbones. It brings out your natural color, making it the perfect product for any skin tone in the summer or winter.”

Brittni: “I not only use my bronzer as an all-over color to heighten my wannabe tan, I use it as my blush as well. I apply it in a way that focuses the majority of the “warmth” on my cheeks, but make sure that I blend it all over my face to give it more of an all-over tan feel.”

Jenna: “This product lasts all day! Warmth gives a subtle hint of color without all the sparkles that you usually find in a bronzer.  I don’t know about you, but I don’t want too much shimmer when I walk outside.”

Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Bronze $39

Kate: “I would die without my Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact in Bronze! It adds great color without going over the top. It’s not too shimmery so it’s appropriate to wear to work but you can also let the shimmer come through in the summer by applying a little extra over your tan. Bonus: It acts as an eyeshadow too!”

Best Blush

NARS Blush in “Orgasm”  $27

Jenna: “This blush is extremely flattering on my skin tone and perfectly completes my look.  The blush has a hint of sparkle and just the right amount of color.”

Bobbi Brown Blush in “Blushed” $24

Kate: “I love Bobbi Brown products because they’re always worth the money. You don’t need to reapply all day long, they truly last throughout the day. You just need a little on your brush to highlight your cheek bones. The website labels it as a “reddish pinky brown”… the best of all worlds! Feel free to skip your bronzer, this will do the trick!”

Clinique Soft-Pressed Powder Blusher in “Honey” $21

Erika: “Since I use powder makeup, it makes sense that I use a powder blush, too. This is my go-to over my bareMinerals warmth powder because it adds the perfect amount of color to my not-so-tan winter cheeks. It’s very natural looking, subtle, and leaves a fresh, radiant finish.”

Maybelline Fit Me in “Deep Rose”

Taylor: “I absolutely love this blush! I love having rosy cheeks and this is the perfect fit for me, theirs a whole line of fit me products that match up with your skin tone.”
